You went once. Maybe twice. You sat in the chair, you answered the questions, you walked out, and nothing was different.
So you filed it away. Therapy does not work. Or the version you do not say out loud, that you are past fixing.
Let me tell you what actually happened in that room.
Start with the ad that got you there. Ten modalities listed under her name. The word eclectic. In practice, that means she borrows what she likes out of each one. It sounds like range. What it usually means is that there is no model underneath it. No coherent account of how the brain works, how emotions work, how a human being actually changes. Ask her how change happens, mechanically, and see whether you get an answer or a feeling. If she cannot tell you how a man changes, she cannot walk you through it.
I did an Associate Fellowship in REBT specifically, so I would never be that. One model. Understood all the way down. Delivered the same way every time.
Then there is the room itself. A calm, safe space where you are held and validated. Validation is not nothing. It is a starting condition. It is not the treatment. She wants you to feel better. I want you to get better, and those are two different jobs with two different outcomes.
And you told me talk therapy did not work. Everything with talking in it gets called talk therapy. What you actually got was somebody listening while you narrated your life back to yourself. That is not treatment. That is an audience.
What I run is delivered with my mouth too. But it is not there to help you sit in your experience more comfortably. It is there to take the belief that is running you and break it.
You did not fail therapy. You walked into a room with no plan in it, and then you took the blame for it.
Go get a model.
Check your intel before you move.
